At the core of Mindable is a team operating from our cutting-edge, Google-inspired workspace in Sherwood Park, Alberta. In total, we have over 50 team members around the world.
This is a little bit about our Marketing Coordinator, Michele.
What were your career aspirations when you were younger?
I can’t say I was ever a kid who knew exactly what they wanted to be when they grew up. I always knew I wanted to do something creative and my favourite subjects in school were always English and Social Studies, and I was okay at Math, so Marketing turned out to be a great fit for me.
What made you decide to apply for a job at Mindable?
I was looking to really beef up my digital marketing skills and stumbled across Mindable. The company culture and work environment looked amazing (spoiler alert, it is!) and I really connected with the company’s Guiding Principles so I decided to apply.
How long have you been working here?
I’ve been at Mindable for four months now and am loving every minute of it! I love that the sky’s the limit, no idea is too big, and we have a huge digital playground to get creative in. There’s also so much to learn here! I’m surrounded by a team of brilliant minds who all support and cheer one another on. Also, Fun Fridays, a cupboard that is always stocked with the best snacks, copious amounts of strong coffee, and morning yoga twice a week, lead by our fantastic instructor, Jac.
How do you like being immersed in the world of digital marketing? What are some of the challenges you are faced with on a daily basis?
I love it! The world of digital marketing is fast-paced and there’s a ton to learn. I enjoy how dynamic it is, every day is always different and I find each week is full of great learning moments.
I’ve been working quite a bit in email marketing, which requires a very keen eye to detail, if one small thing isn’t added correctly it can cause serious problems so I have to be on my A-game. I’ve definitely made mistakes along the way, but the important thing has been learning from those mistakes, which has made me more agile and foresighted.
What do you do on a day-to-day basis?
I support Robyn, our Email Marketing Manager, and Alex, our Marketing Manager in all of their projects. My biggest focus right now is on email, where I coordinate email marketing campaigns that are directed to an audience of over 4 million subscribers through Maropost, our email marketing platform. I also support with building and testing sales funnels. Everyday here is different and I’m constantly learning, I love it!
What is your best digital marketing tip?
Stay on top of trends and read! I’m subscribed to Hubspot’s daily blog and love reading it every morning to stay up-to-date on what some leading tricks and trends in the industry are. Also, research and network – Google is my best friend because I find there’s always an acronym or term I have to be on top of. I also love talking with my other friends that work in marketing, they have a lot to teach me and always recommend great reads too!
What are the top skills that you utilize as a Marketing Coordinator at Mindable?
Staying organized and having good time management skills is a big one. Like I said, things move fast here so I have to make sure I’m using all my time effectively. Attention to detail is also key! There’s a lot that goes into ensuring our email marketing campaigns are set up properly so my glasses have to be clean and my brain has to be sharp to ensure I don’t miss the little things.
What would be your advice to professionals who aspire to work in digital marketing, specifically in advertising and traffic?
Do your research, stay on top of trends and never lose that drive of being a life-long learner. This nice thing about digital marketing is that you can learn a lot about it online and can even take online courses to add depth to areas you’re looking to really hone in on.
At Mindable we use DigitalMarketer courses to get us acquainted with all the niche areas, which I found to be incredibly helpful!
What is your favorite quote to live by?
“I am Beyonce, Always” – Michael Scott
What’s a fun fact about you?
I am a huge Will Farrell fan. I use to be so obsessed that my friend and I started a Facebook fan group called Will Farrell is the Way and created T-shirts with his face and the acronym “WWWFD?” – What Would Will Farrell Do? Now I’m thinking we should probably bring the t-shirts back.
